The Next Big Screen(s): iPhone 6

According to several sources, Apple is supposedly coming out with two different sizes of the iPhone 6- a 4.7 inch screen size and a 5.5 inch screen size. Expected to release this fall, here is what we can expect from the larger screens.

The iPhone 5 and 5S screen measures 4 inches, growing larger from the original 3.5 inches. Now with the rumored larger screen options, the new iPhone will be competing with Android and Windows phones more than ever before. With these designs,  it is clear that Apple is listening to consumers’ demand for phones with larger screen displays.

Along with the larger screens, both versions of the iPhone 6 are expected to include other improvements as well. Both of the soon-to-be-released models are rumored to feature metal backs similar to the iPhone 5S, along with multiple color options. These two phone sizes may also feature increased resolution and a durable sapphire display. And the larger iPhone 6 (5.5 inch) could be the only iPhone model to offer 128 GB of storage space. Leaked designs and samples of the iPhone 6 suggest it will be considerably thinner than the current iPhone 5S.

Apple is forecasting these improvements will increase consumer demand. The Wall Street Journal stated, “company is asking suppliers to manufacture between 70 million and 80 million units combined of two large-screen iPhones with 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch displays by Dec. 30, according to people familiar with the matter.” They added, “Its forecast for what is commonly called the iPhone 6 is significantly larger than the initial order last year of between 50 million and 60 million versions of the iPhone 5S and 5C.”

The new sizes are expected to release this September. There has apparently been some controversy regarding production issues of the 5.5 inch size. This could push the release of the largest iPhone 6 version back slightly, but we will just have to wait and see!
